futatsu no spica ...again

spica did it again... made me cry again that is. today it's the episode when asumi made friends with kasane. lion-san said: "what people say isn't necessarily the truth, no one can easily say what they feel, saying that they are having fun when they are sad, saying that they are happy when they are frustrated (kuyashikittemo), saying that they hate you when they like you, saying they don't want to see you when they miss you..." reading those lines now on screen doesn't do the scene justice.. but Koyasu Takehito's voice, which suited Lion-san's character perfectly, lent the necessary element to make that particular scene poignant.

'copter scare

for the past 15 minutes a military helicopter has been circling the air within the vicinity. it's scary to hear the propelers up close really. there's a primitive fear inside me that gets affected by that deafening sound, as if the blades themselves are the heralds of the threat that the helicopter is going to crash land on our roof at any moment.

futatsu no spica

Category: musings

Futatsu no Spica has made me cry in no less than 4 or 5 times in the 11 eps that I've seen of it (which is about halfway through). The touching parts are mostly the ones with asumi and her father in it and the ones with lion-san and suzunari sensei.
I don't know why but I'm such a sucker for touching scenes that dont really try hard to be touching... 'scuse me while i blow my nose *sniff*

2005 French Open - Nadal Vs. Puerta

This was the last match for the French open. i just had to root for Nadal because i was able to catch his game when he won valiantly against Federer (who uncharacteristically lost his cool a bit when he complained about the unruly crowd which was making him lose his concentration).
It was the first time I saw Puerta though but he was one tough competitor. Early on in the game he suffered an injury on his thigh (or leg) which had to be bandaged. You almost couldn't tell it was there though by the way he played. He made Nadal run back and forth as he continually hit the ball to the corners and always at difficult angles. A lesser player would have failed to return half of them but Nadal worked hard. He energetically chased the balls and managed to returned them.
although Puerta wasn't as decisive a volleyist as Nadal, by his reflexes he was able to return a couple of difficult net shots that Nadal set up (there was one that accidentally got aimed directly at him but he returned that as well). In the end however, Puerta lost steam (partly because of his injury maybe) and lost the match, winning one game and losing 4. There was one point in the game when he got irritated with Nadal when after the first set the latter had to change rackets and took a while to return, drinking first and towelling off sweat. Puerta complained to the umpire about it. Throughout Nadal played it cool and was always respectful of his opponent.

this turned out to be Nadal's game. such high hopes for the spaniard. we'll definitely be seeing more of him.
